From Idea to Print: Custom Cable Clamps for My Desk

I needed a way to organize the cables and splitters behind my desk. Sure, I could have ordered something from Ikea—but I wanted to design my own solution.
I started by measuring the edge of my desktop and sketching the idea on paper. Then I moved to OnShape, which turned out to be very easy to learn. From there, I printed the first version on my Adventurer 3.
Once I had the object in my hand and could test it against the table, I saw where it needed improvement. After three iterations, I now have a working clamp design: a snug fit that doesn’t need screws or tighteners.
The next step is to print the rest of the parts and finally tuck the cables and splitters into place. A small project—but one that gave me a cleaner workspace, a chance to practice CAD and 3D printing, and the satisfaction of building something myself.
